History of Tee Bird Golf Club
It was Bruce and Jean Irwin who had the foresight and vision to build Tee Bird Country Club. Bruce was the Assistant Golf Professional at the Glens Falls Country Club. He always wanted to own and operate his own golf course. It was 1960 and against all odds he got a group of members together which put up the first part of the funds needed to build his golf course. These people later became the first of his charter membership. With that money, he went back to the bank which a year earlier had promised him if he came up with the money to buy the old dairy farm in the town of Moreau / South Glens Falls, they would finance his dream!
In 1962 Tee Bird opened its first 9 holes. As the years went on so did Tee Bird growth. Bruce and Jean made the club into a very successful 18 hole golf course. Bruce’s only failure in life was that he could not beat cancer. In 1986, Bruce Irwin passed away from this deadly disease. At this point, Bruce’s son Dan and his family took over the business and Tee Bird continued to prosper. In 1993 Dan Irwin built a new 9 holes adjacent to the original 18 holes and called it Tee Bird South.
Today Tee Bird North and South are the only 27 hole golf course in the entire Glens Falls / Southern Adirondack Region and the spirit of Bruce Irwin’s dream and success lives on. After 35 years of running Tee Bird, Dan and his family thought about seriously selling the Club. Through a mutual acquaintance, Dan was introduced to Todd Heyda, a PGA Golf Professional from Westchester County, NY. Todd had been the Head Golf Pro at the Mahopac Golf Club for 22 years. With his competitive playing days behind him, he too, just as Bruce Irwin, had a burning desire to own and operate his own golf club. Todd joined forces with two other partners and purchased the South Course and the adjoining vacant farm in October of 2006 and renamed them both, Tee Bird South and Tee Bird North Golf Club respectively.
Today the club is known for its well maintained conditions, friendly professional staff and challenging 27 holes. Come out and play Affordable Golf at a course rich with Local Golf History!
